meditation on today’s gospel reading: Mark 2:18-22

I’m reflecting today on the Gospel from today’s readings from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

They have a daily reading of the Scriptures.

And today, it’s January 19th, 2026, and the Gospel is Mark chapter 2, verses 18-22.

And this is the one where the disciples of John the Baptist and the Pharisees, they were accustomed to fasting.

And the people came to Jesus and said, look, you know, what’s up?

John’s disciples fast, the Pharisees fast, but your disciples don’t fast.

And Jesus says, he has a couple of ways to respond.
